Roofing Material
The layer you can see from the street, whether that's asphalt shingles, metal, stone-coated steel, or synthetic tile. It's what takes the wind, hail, and sun so nothing underneath has to.
Underlayment
A water-resistant barrier rolled over the sheathing before any shingles go on. It's your second line of defense if water ever gets past the surface.
Ice & Water Shield
A self-sealing membrane along the eaves and valleys where Iowa ice dams form. It seals around every nail so water can't work its way in.
Roof Sheathing
The plywood or OSB decking your shingles actually get fastened to. It carries the weight of snow, crews, and equipment, so we check its condition before anything goes back on.
Roof Framing
The rafters or trusses that give your roof its shape. Everything above them depends on this frame being straight and sound, which is why we don't cover up problems we find here.
Insulation
Sits in your attic floor or rafter bays to slow heat transfer year-round. Paired with good ventilation, it keeps your house comfortable and your energy bills lower.
Interior Finish
The drywall ceiling you see from inside. It's the last layer in the stack, so if it starts showing stains, something above it needs attention.
